Shop Tour 2016

I’ve been in my new home and shop for almost a year and a half now and have been wanting to put out a shop tour since I got things somewhat sorted out. It kept getting put off over and over because my shop hasn’t gotten to where I want it. I finally realized that it will probably never get there and will always be an evolution. I’ve decided that this year I want to tackle at least 4 organization projects in the shop and have since deemed this the year of organization.

I’m not going to go into great detail of my shop tour in this article but probably talked more than enough in the video so check it out!

Amazon Affiliate links for most of my major tools can be found on My Tools page.

Another one of the reasons I decided to do this shop tour now was because I got my hands on a DJI OSMO camera and wanted to play around with it before I had to give it back. If you aren’t familiar with this camera, it’s a handheld camera on a fully stabilized gimbal that is capable of shooting high quality 4K video. I ended up shooting in 4K and later found out that I need  a new computer… After trying to edit and encode this video in that high quality of a format and having it fail hours into the process, I dropped it town to 1080p which I normally shoot in and it encoded just fine.

This isn’t the first shop tour I’ve filmed but it is the first one I’m releasing. The first one was actually filmed in my old shop but it wasn’t very well done and I planned on eventually re-filming it. As you probably guess, that never happened and then I moved. I am going to attempt a new shop tour every year to show my shops progression as well as the eventual move into the new shop. You know.. the new shop I keep talking about that’s really still a figment of my imagination. (I just added a yearly appointment on my calendar to make this video so hopefully I won’t forget!)

If you haven’t already seen My Tools page, I try to keep up with all of the major or useful tools that I use in my shop. If you are interested in what I’m using, check it out!

  1. Nice article, Ty. Editing 4K footage is TOUGH. I have an 8 core processor with 16 gigs of ram and a solid state hd. It works, but not really worth it. Maybe the computers will catch up soon. For now I have all but given up on it.
